Themes, games and a simple plan for every age, from a first birthday to a twelve-year-old's big day.
The easiest kids' birthday party is one at a play venue: the children stay busy, the decor and games are handled, and you get to enjoy the day.
Keep parties for under-5s to about two hours, invite roughly as many children as your child's age plus one or two (more if it's the whole class), and book 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends.
Ages 1–3
Colours, animals, balloons or a favourite cartoon. Soft play and a ball pool keep little ones happy.
Ages 4–6
Jungle safari, superheroes, princesses and fairies, or bubbles. Simple games with small prizes.
Ages 7–9
Ninja warrior, science party or a treasure hunt. Kids this age love a challenge.
Ages 10–12
Sports day, games night with motion games, or a DIY craft studio they can take home.
Jungle party
Pair the theme with a mini jungle track so the decor and the play match.
Ninja party
A ninja course plus a 'ninja training' certificate for every guest.
A home party is cosy and personal, but you handle the space, the games, the clean-up and keeping 20 children busy at once.
A play venue costs more, but the play equipment does the entertaining, the space is built for kids, and there's no clean-up at home. For more than 15 children, a venue is usually less stress.
